Memory of the place

A workshop aiming to explore the statue of the “Al-Maseera” in Majdal Shams Square, created by artist Hassan Khater, and review the details of the statue's story and the social and political conditions that accompanied it's creation. Using a "pre-prepared archive" of images, we examined how space had been used before the statue. We also delved through the images back down to the oldest images available from the last century. The participants were impressed by the discoveries they made through observing the physical transformations that occurred in the place and understanding the social, cultural and political transformations that the region experienced through this survey.
