The Death of Socrates, By Jacques Louis David
An interactive workshop entitled "The Death of Socrates", trying to explore, through the analysis of the painting of the French artist Jacques Louis David, questions of the type: how to read the painting, how to understand its historical, technical and conceptual contexts. We reviewed some of the methods that impose on the works of art some meanings and contents that do not really exist, and how we should stick to the visual elements during this process. We focused on the amazing paradoxes in this painting and how to link them with the historical data of the story of Socrates. Throughout this talk, we reviewed the most important ideas relating to Socrates and today's relevance to our local culture.
